1. GST Overview
In Australia, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a value‑added tax of 10% applied to most goods and services. As a registered Australian business, Commodore Wreckers Gold Coast complies with all GST obligations under the A New Tax System (Goods and Services Tax) Act 1999. Our Australian Business Number (ABN) is 12 345 678 910.
GST is included in the advertised price for all our Commodore spare parts unless clearly stated otherwise. For our taxable sales, we collect GST on behalf of the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and remit it through our regular Business Activity Statements (BAS).[reference:0]
2. Tax Invoices
As a GST‑registered business, we are required by the ATO to provide a tax invoice for:
- Any taxable sale of $82.50 (including GST) or more; or
- Any sale where the customer requests a tax invoice, regardless of the amount. You have the right to request an invoice for any purchase, and we will provide it within 28 days.[reference:1]
All our tax invoices meet ATO requirements and include:
- The words "Tax Invoice" prominently displayed.
- Our business name (Commodore Wreckers Gold Coast) and ABN (12 345 678 910).
- The date of issue and a unique invoice number.
- A clear description of the Commodore parts sold, including quantity and price.
- The GST amount payable (or a statement that the total price includes GST).
- For sales over $1,000, the buyer's name or ABN is included as required.[reference:2]
If your purchase qualifies for a GST exemption (e.g., eligible disability concession), your tax invoice will clearly indicate that GST has not been charged.[reference:3]
3. Pricing & GST Display
All prices displayed on our website, in our yard, and in our communications are in Australian Dollars (AUD) and include GST, unless explicitly stated as "ex. GST". We believe in transparent pricing, so you will never be surprised by an added tax at checkout. The GST component is 1/11th of the total price for taxable sales.
4. GST‑Free Sales & Exemptions
While most Commodore spare parts sold to the general public are subject to 10% GST, Australian law provides specific exemptions:
- Eligible People with a Disability: If you hold a current certificate of medical eligibility, you may purchase certain car parts GST‑free. These include batteries, disc brake pads, tyres, oil filters, spark plugs, water pumps, windscreens, and head/taillight globes (as defined by the ATO). Only parts specifically made for cars (not trucks, vans, or motorcycles) qualify. You will need to present your declaration to us; we will then process your sale without GST.[reference:4][reference:5]
- Excluded Items: Even with a valid certificate, GST still applies to items that are not car parts, such as oil, grease, paint, brake fluid, petrol, and accessories like spoilers, roof racks, or CD players.[reference:6]
If you believe you are eligible for a GST‑free purchase, please contact us before completing your order. We will guide you through the documentation required under ATO guidelines.
5. GST on Refunds & Returns
If you return a product for a refund under our warranty or returns policy, the refund amount will include the GST originally paid. We will issue the refund using your original payment method, and we will adjust our GST reporting accordingly. Please note that original shipping fees (if applicable) are non‑refundable unless the return is due to our error.
6. GST Registration & Compliance
Commodore Wreckers Gold Coast is voluntarily registered for GST. The ATO requires registration once a business’s annual turnover reaches or exceeds $75,000. We registered early to ensure full compliance and to offer our customers the benefit of tax invoices for input tax credits.[reference:7]
We monitor our GST turnover monthly and submit accurate Business Activity Statements on time. Our records are kept for at least five years as required by law.
7. Business Purchases & Input Tax Credits
If your business is registered for GST, you may be entitled to claim an input tax credit for the GST included in your purchase of Commodore parts (provided the parts are used for your business). To claim the credit, you will need a valid tax invoice from us. Please ensure that when you order, you provide your business name and ABN so that we can include them on your invoice (required for sales over $1,000).
8. International Sales
At this time, Commodore Wreckers Gold Coast only ships within Australia. Therefore, all our sales are domestic and subject to Australian GST. If, in future, we offer international shipping, exports may be treated as GST‑free supplies under ATO rules. We will update this policy accordingly.
9. Tax Advice Disclaimer
This policy provides general information about our GST handling and should not be considered professional tax advice. Tax laws can change, and individual circumstances vary. We strongly recommend that you consult a registered tax agent or the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) for advice specific to your situation. The ATO website (ato.gov.au) has comprehensive resources about GST for both consumers and businesses.
